A Snowbird’s Guide to Torrey Pines

If you’re looking for a winter getaway location, you may want to consider Torrey Pines Golf Course located in scenic La Jolla, California, which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown San Diego. This is a world class golf course that features two 18-hole courses, the North Course and the South Course. The weather is usually sunny and the courses are spectacular.

If you are a non-resident expect to pay a significantly higher amount than resident golfers. Also, you must schedule your tee time 90 days in advance, unless you want to golf during twilight hours and get to the course on the night before golfing and wait in line for the first come/first serve tee times. You will have to get there at 6 p.m. and stay till 7:30 a.m., before the golfers with reservations begin playing.

Effective 11/1/09 prices for non-resident golfers are: South Course: Mon-Thur $235, Friday-Sun $279, and for the North Course: Mon-Thur $156, Fri-Sun $180. All prices include green fee and cart. Torrey Pines also has Twilight Rates that are effective 11/1/09 that are as follows: South Course: Mon-Thur $115 and Fri-Sun $142 and the North Course: Mon-Thur $68 and Fri-Sun $82. Twilight tee times cannot be reserved in advance and are walk on only. Twilight starts at 2 p.m. between November and March and changes to 3:30 p.m. from April to October. In 2010 both course at Torrey Pines will be close for maintenance and the Century Club of San Diego Invitational from January 18th to February 2nd.
